Ireland’s penultimate World Cup Qualifying Group D match saw the hosts take on Moldova and they got off to the best start possible with Daryl Murphy opening the scoring on 2 minutes. He then added a second before 20 minutes with a looping header into the far corner. Daryl Murphy almost got his hat-trick as Cyrus Christie crossed midway through the second half but the Ilie Cebanu in goal for the visitors intercepted that effort. Moldova’s Alexandru Dedov saw red on 90 minutes and by that time the three points were in the bag. Next up for Ireland is the final group match in Cardiff on Monday where the winner will progress into the play-offs.
