Due to competing in Europa matches, Shamrock Rovers fielded U19s and U17s in a series of friendly matches, Celtic played last week and this time it was Premier League Burnley. Jon Walters opened the scoring in the first half early on but credit to the young Rovers side as they battled well and kept Burnley’s GK Tom Heaton on his toes. Both sides made changes in the second half and Burnley added a second thanks to good skill from Ashley Barnes. Robbie Brady scored Burnley’s third thanks to good link up play from Steven Ward and another Irish International was key in the fourth goal as his 30-yard effort was deflected off Welshman Sam Vokes as it crashed into the goal off the underside of the bar; 4-0.
